It is hard to believe, but once again the boating season is nearly upon
us. Winter is long in Maine. But the winter was tempered by many DEYC
fun activities including our Christmas Party, Sugarloaf Ski-weekend, Snowbird
Rendezvous, and six Winter Gatherings. Thanks to everyone who made these
events a success!
There was plenty
of club work to go around as well. Beyond the task of the average winter
season, we found ourselves re-writing new By-laws. After countless hours
of hard work by Chairman, P/C Bob McCarthy and his committee, the By-laws
were reviewed and approved by the Board of Director’s at a special
meeting. Upon passage, by a overwhelming majority vote of the membership,
the new By-laws became effective immediately. The new By-laws are printed
in the roster book, which everyone will receive.
It was never our
intent to satisfy everyone, which is impossible. We now have By-laws that
are much improved and something to build upon. I appreciate all those
who have taken the time to review this complex and not so interesting
reading and who have returned a ballot. It would be unfair not to mention
those who got the ball rolling on this important matter nearly 4 years
ago, including P/C Shirley Geoffrion, Sarah Davis and Edie Mason.
At this time, I would
like to welcome all new members and I invite you to participate in our
scheduled events. Volunteering is a great opportunity to meet other club
members. We are a club of volunteers and we could not function without
you.
In your packet, which
you have just received, please read all the information immediately, and
send back your reservations in a timely manner. This is helpful to all
those involved who have volunteered to organize these events. If you need
any forms or have questions about any scheduled events, please contact
the host, myself or go to our web site: www.downeastyachtclub.com for
assistance. Also, check out the many, great photos everyone has submitted.
The web committee is taking orders for sponsors; so sign-up.
In closing, I would
like to thank all those who have been so helpful to Brenda and me from
the start, especially Lynn, our Administrative Assistant. The club would
be in turmoil without Lynn. Spring is here and hopefully, we can look
forward to a warm summer, fun times, and a great boating year.
Best regards,
Commodore Dick Wood
