Commodore's
Message

We have come a long way since the creation of the FUN Club in 1966, with
changes to the By Laws, creation of the Guideline Book, Membership Committee
practices, accounting procedure changes and computerization. The By Laws
required a great deal of work by various members who should be congratulated
for drafting a set of By Laws that will provide a sound basis for running
the Club. The Guideline Book is a living document developed by our former
Commodore, Shirley Geoffrion, which will be an enormous help to the incoming
officers and membership. The Guidelines are subject to updates and changes
as operations and situations change in the future; therefore the document
should always serve as a valuable reference to new and existing officers
in the performance of their duties.
Lynn Blake, our past
Administrative Assistant, has been of enormous help to our officers, members,
and to me during the years in which I served the club in various roles.
I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank her for her assistance
and support over these years. Virginia Hill, our new Administrative Assistant,
relieves Lynn as of October and is available to help the membership and
officers with this year’s activities. As the club is a cooperative
effort, Lynn has agreed to join the board and will continue to be available
for consultation with Virginia, as needed.
This year, we developed
a schedule of events with discrete activities that are a little different
as the board felt we needed fewer planned summer events this year. However,
we are looking to extend the mini cruise next summer by one or two days.
Our Fleet Captain, Matt Carlson, and his committee are developing a terrific
summer cruise for our annual July Cruise. The details of this will be
available to all members in the spring mailing.
During this winter
period, we have scheduled the annual ski weekend hosted by Tom and Laurel
Blake, the Snowbird Rendezvous Hosted by Shirley and Jeff Geoffrion and
the monthly, local gatherings coordinated by Ship and Jane Williams. The
membership is invited to participate in all the events, some may be sign-
up, and others are show-up.
This year we will
be leaning a little more toward computerizing the notification of events
and the use of email. The Website committee, chaired by Paula Wheeler,
is developing a “Members Only” section that will have a Membership
Application, the Mooring Share Program, and Minutes of the Director’s
Meetings. The Website Committee wants to encourage members to use the
Bulletin Board portion of the site to list items for sale.
Should you have any
questions or suggestions this year, please feel free to contact any of
your officers, or myself directly, as I will be asking for your assistance
during the year.
I would like to welcome
all the new members and encourage them to participate in the events of
the club as well as take advantage of what the club has to offer. In fact,
I would like to encourage all members to do the same thing.
With your help, we
can anticipate another great year with some interesting events in which
to participate, places to see, and lots of things to do. We look forward
to seeing you on the water. Have FUN out there!
Regards,
Sandy Young
