Commodore's
Message

As we cruise into the Down East Yacht Club’s 46th year, I am humbled to be the 2nd ever female Commodore. I have enjoyed participating in events and interacting with the wonderful members of this club since I was a young child. I’m thankful that my daughter Hali has the same opportunity. I’m grateful that my husband Dusty jumped in feet first, and has both enjoyed being part, a very helpful part, of this wonderful club!
My goals heading into next year include continuing the traditions and values of this fun club, as well as increasing membership! Let’s get the word out about our fun club. Invite friends to come to a winter gathering, the ski weekend, or even on our annual summer cruise! Let’s show them all the fun the DEYC has to offer!
We have a great bridge of officers; Vice Commodore Matt & Charlinda Carlson who’ve stocked the Woody Wagon with some wonderful spirits to keep us refreshed during the upcoming year. Rear Commodore Terry & Lauren Stockwell have some great items available in the Ships Store, make sure to stop by and check it out! Fleet Captain Dave & Genie Quist have put together a great cruise committee and they have a good start on next years annual cruise. Always a highlight of the summer!
Kudos to Chair Paula Wheeler and the website committee members who have put together a wonderful useful website, with exciting changes coming including updating the website to allow members to sign up and pay online! Cutting down on postage for everyone!
Jane & Skip Williams have arranged a great Winter Gatherings schedule kicking off October 15th at Vic & Joan Taylor’s, and P/C Joe & Brenda Blake’s on November 19th.
New this year P/C Shirley Geoffrion & friends have decided to put together monthly Florida Winter Gatherings! Check out the schedule of events on the website for dates & details on both the Snowbound & Snowbird winter gathering schedules!
In December we’ll have our annual Christmas party at the Hilton Garden Inn in Freeport. They are giving us a discounted rate on rooms and new this year, we will have a kid’s dinner option. Bring the family and make a night of it!! You never know what Jolly Old Elf might show up!
On February 3rd we’ll head back to Sugarloaf for another great ski weekend! We have on tap a fun Friday night cocktail party as well as a scrumptious Saturday night dinner at the Inn. Watch your email as more details will follow over the course of the next couple of months.
On March 8th DEYC members will board the “Island Princess” to explore the Panama Canal! This I’m sure will prove to be a fun and exciting trip! The website has sign up information and the travel agents contact information. There may still be time to sign up!!
We have a lot going on during the “off” season! Watch your email for reminders, news & information from Administrative Assistant Barb Gray. Make sure to check out the website www.downeastyachtclub.com and put these events on your calendar!
In closing I’d like to thank the Officers, Directors, Committee Members, AA Barb Gray and all the volunteers who help the club function. The DEYC is run by volunteers, if you’d like to help out, serve on the board of directors, or consider holding office, please speak up and let an Officer know!
Thank you and hope to see you all at some of the upcoming functions!
