DEYC Annual Meeting
By Carol Saunders

The annual meeting of the DEYC began Saturday, August 22 at 0900 hours with a delicious breakfast at the Tugboat Inn. Commodore Joe thanked all who attended and gave a short synopsis of last year’s events which were very enjoyable and well attended, especially our Cruise to Mexico. V/C Sandy Young reported on the dock maintenance and the use and inventory of the Woody Wagon. R/C John Barsomian reported on the Ship’s Store, inventory and profits. A/A Lynn Blake gave the treasurer’s report. She was pleased to announce that we had a profit this year. F/C Amy Goodwin reviewed "the Cruise" and thanked her committee.

The committee reports were given by each chairman. Some of the highlights are: a new audit system; our investments, doing well considering a rough year for investments; 32 new members; a updated Guideline Book for 2009; our Web Site (featuring the "Sunflower Raft") has had as many as 1900 "hits" a month. Finishing the reports our A/A Lynn Blake, who is leaving her position on October 16, will be replaced by Virginia Hill.

Unanimously voted in by the members our new Bridge is: Commodore Sandy Young, V/C John Barsomian, R/C Amy Goodwin and Treasurer / Secretary Ron Richardson. Our new board members are Lynn Blake, Andrew Morley and Skip Williams, with Terry Stockwell filling Ron Richardson’s unexpired term. Our new Fleet Captain is Matthew Carlson. Amy Goodwin (retiring F/C) presented him with a Captain’s hat for Charlinda and a baseball cap for Matthew embroidered with "she just thinks she is – I’m the Captain." Margaret Thompson is our Historian.

Commodore Sandy presented P/C Joe & Brenda with a photograph of the Royal Caribbean Ship, "Grandeur of the Sea," as it passed by the Spring Point Lighthouse in South Portland.

The next event is the Hauling Out Party, September 12 at Blake’s Boatyard at 1500 hours. Don’t forget to return your reservation slip by Sept. 5th. See you there!!!
