Friday, August 13, The Goslings

Saturday, August 14, The Basin

August 12, Dolphin marina

We keep getting requests for the Dolphin Restaurant, so it is on the itinerary again. They are very busy this year both for the restaurant and dock. You will need to make reservations early. The dockmaster, Chris, advises that they have 15-17 moorings available, slip and dock space plus a floating dock (4-5 boats). Rates are $35 for mooring, slips $3.00/ft and the floating dock $1.50/ft.

All boat reservations must be made through Dockwa. Go to www.dockwa.com to reserve. The steps are very easy and if you have been there before, the Dockwa form will likely already have your data posted in. The docking choice has only 2 options “mooring” or “dock”. If you prefer a floating dock, select dock and then leave a note in the “Comments” section as to your preference for a floating dock or slip. They will adjust your rate for the floating dock as appropriate after arrival. Excellent launch service is available (plus coffee and blueberry muffins by launch in the morning!). Check in only after noon (1-2pm preferable).

The restaurant now has busy hour delays of 1 ½ hours or more. Here is what we have worked out with the Manager, Myra. We could not get a dedicated area, but she will set up large tables for us. There will be two seatings for faster service. Group 1 of up to 25 will be seated at 4:00pm and Group 2 of up to 25 will be seated at 4:30pm. Please email me (Ron) which group time you prefer and include your names and that of any guests for that seating. The manager will hold those tables only for those names I forward to her. If our number exceeds 50, I will advise all cruise members that the DEYC tables are full, and you may make a direct reservation yourself for available seating.

August 13, The Goslings

These are a small group of islands not far west from Dolphin with good protection. Many private moorings usually available. If not, there is good anchoring in 12 to 16 feet – consult your chart. You can dingy ashore for good hiking & exploration. The Goslings are protected by the Maine Coast Heritage Trust. Watch for seals on little Irony Island to the east.

Captain’s choice for supper – activity to be announced later.

August 14, The Basin

The Basin has been a favorite. This is a round, saltwater pool in the trees completely protected on all sides. This harbor is on New Meadows River about two miles north of Sebasco Harbor. Leave can “5” to port and look for a slight indentation on the right that marks the entrance. Turn right and go straight down the channel. It narrows to about 75 feet as you make the left turn into the Basin.

Anchor towards the western part of the Basin in mud. The east side is shoal and avoid the rock shown on the chart between two 11-foot spots.

Captain’s choice for supper – and activity to be announced. Water is usually very warm and a great spot for a swim!
